M&H Soaring
Why Winglets?

Since 1994 M&H Soaring has been working with Dr. Mark Maughmer, of Penn State University, to design and manufacture winglets to improve the handling and performance of high performance sailplanes. This collaboration has tested various designs to produce a winglet which allows the sailplane to climb effectively in thermals at low speeds, as well as being able to glide efficiently between thermals at high speeds. This work in developing an airfoil, which is optimized throughout the entire "climb/glide cycle", can be seen on the winglets which are available from M&H Soaring. This latest generation of this winglet design has now also been incorporated by Schempp-Hirth in the production of their Ventus 2ax and Ventus 2bx sailplanes.

In order to better understand the performance benefits offered by the winglets offered by M&H Soaring, we encourage you to read the following articles written by Dr. Maughmer.
