The Discus is a Standard Class icon and a true classic. I have owned one for twelve years, and would rate it as one of the most enjoyable sailplanes in the world to own and fly.  Lightweight wings and automatic control hook-ups make it the easiest glider on the field to assemble.  The elegant simplicity of Schempp-Hirth engineering gives years of trouble free flying with minimal maintenance.  The cockpit is roomy; the water-ballast system is simply the best; the lightweight swing-up instrument panel is perfect; I could easily go on.

But more to the point, a Discus is a dream to fly, with excellent handling and climb, even in choppy, hard-to-center thermals.  And it has the glide performance to get you home at the end of the day.  It is an excellent cross-country ship with docile handling, powerful dive brakes, and a low stall speed that make it safe and easy to land almost anywhere.

The World Class glider should be a Discus.  It is certainly a world-class sailplane, and anybody would enjoy owning one.
